How to Care for Silk and Silk Viscose

Hand Washing with cold water is most recommended.

Our mulberry silk is made of protein fiber which has the same structure as a hair. It is a substance that can be destroyed more quickly when exposed to a lot of chemicals with strong bleaching. Natural silk itself rarely clings to body odor, so only wash silk when necessary. To remind you, our mulberry silk products do not look perfectly smooth like industrially produced silk because they are handmade and naturally dyed. So, some tiny weaving errors are sometimes unavoidable, and silk needs to have similar treatments like when you take care of your hair.

  • It is the best to hand washing your silk with a small amount of delicate silk wash, shampoo, or diluted shower gel and rinse quickly through cold water.
  • Do not wash silk with hot water as this treatment can make the fabric shrink.
  • Do not wash with soap, washing powder.
  • Do not soak with fabric softener
  • Make sure not to twist or wring the fabric as this treatment will harm the silk and make it self-flattened.
  • Do not tumble dry.
  • Hang flat or lay flat to dry, avoid direct sunlight.
  • Iron on the left side at a low temperature or iron with silk setting to keep your pieces wrinkle-free. Creases tend to disappear when worn.

Machine wash

If your washing machine has Silk/Wool washing option, it is possible for our silk products to be machine washed. We recommend washing at no higher than 30 degree.

  • Use a protective mesh bag/laundry bag to avoid silk fibers tearing.
  • Add a small of amount of silk detergent/shampoo/diluted shower gel to the machine.
  • Make sure not to spin silk fabrics because it can cause wrinkles and tears.
  • Do not tumble dry.
  • Hang flat or lay flat to dry, avoid direct sunlight.
  • Iron on the left side at a low temperature or iron with silk setting to keep your pieces wrinkle-free. Creases tend to disappear when worn too.

How to Care for Linen

We also recommend that hand washing with cold water and mild detergent is best. Pure linen has stronger yarn than mulberry silk so is possible to have both options: wash with hands and with washing machine on a gentle washing mode. Here are some other notes that you need to take into accounts when taking care of linen.

  • Use a protective mesh bag/laundry bag to avoid linen fibers tearing.
  • Choose Cotton/ Linen washing option if any.
  • Use mild detergent. It is recommended to wash at no higher than 40 degree.
  • Do not bleach.
  • It is best to iron/steam linen when the garment is moist.
  • Iron/steam on the left side at a low temperature to keep your pieces wrinkle-free.
  • Hang flat or lay flat to dry or air dry.
